PALMANOVA
PALMANOVA
Palmanova is an ancient fortress-city located in the south-eastern part of Friuli Venezia Giulia, in the province of Udine. It takes the name of “starry city” as it is characterized by a peculiar 9-pointed star plan, which makes it a national monument in itself.
Among the monuments and places of interest that characterize Palmanova there are:
- the three monumental doors allow you to access the city;
- the Piazza Grande is a hexagonal area overlooked by the most important buildings and is a symbol of the historical events that represent the fortress;
- the Cathedral of Palmanova is an important Venetian architectural model in Friuli and overlooks the Piazza Grande;
- the Military Historical Museum contains various materials relating to the events that took place in Palmanova from the year of foundation of the city (in 1953) up to the Second World War: documents of the corps and units, relics, documents and uniforms.
